The design content and its development as documented in the archival records.

After numerous rounds of consultation and the search for a suitable site, the site selected for the Korean Pavilion was at the southeastern edge of the Giardini. This site occupies the only hill in Venice, formed from the earth and construction debris generated during the park’s creation under Napoleonic rule in the early nineteenth century. The hill is densely planted with a variety of tree species introduced when the park was laid out. The site for the Korean Pavilion includes an abandoned brick building constructed in the 1930s, with the Japanese and Russian Pavilions to its northeast and the German Pavilion to its southeast. Situated at the highest elevation point(Elevation): Height of land measured relative to sea level in Venice, the Korean Pavilion site has the distinct advantage of being an unrivaled vantage point from which the historic city—including the lagoon(Lagoon): Shallow body of water surrounding Venice, partially separated from the sea by sandbars and the San Marco(San Marco): The central district of historic Venice, centered around St. Mark's Square district—can be seen at a single glance.

The Venice region is generally characterized by minimal variation in elevation, making it difficult to obtain precisely rendered topographic maps. For the modeling of the Korean Pavilion site and its surrounding environment, information on the topography and the locations of existing trees was obtained from the Second Report on the Feasibility Study for the Remodeling of the Korean Pavilion, prepared by Mancuso e Serena Architetti Associati in 2017 (MC-VB-01504). Based on this information, 2D drawings were produced and then developed into a 3D model. The adjacent national pavilions (German, Japanese, Russian, and Canadian) were modeled in simplified form on the basis of information from a report on the existing buildings in the Giardini published by the City of Venice in 2000, allowing the Korean Pavilion to be viewed in relation to its surrounding context.
